A year ago, I decided to start my own online business. I didn't have investors, a big budget, or even much experience. All I had was around $200 and a willingness to learn.
At the beginning, I made a lot of mistakes. I spent money on things I didn't need, wasted time trying different strategies, and often compared myself to people who were already successful. There were times when I honestly thought about quitting.
The biggest lesson I learned is that consistency matters more than motivation. Some days I felt excited to work, but most days I had to force myself to keep going. Small actions repeated every day eventually produced results.
Another thing that surprised me was how important customer trust is. People don't buy from businesses; they buy from businesses they trust. Responding quickly, being transparent, and delivering what I promised helped me get repeat customers.
Financially, the first few months were difficult. I wasn't making much profit, but I focused on learning instead of earning. Once I understood my market better, sales started becoming more consistent.
Looking back, if I had to start again, I would spend less time chasing shortcuts and more time building real relationships with customers.
For those who have started a business, what was the biggest lesson you learned during your first year? I'd love to hear other experiences and see if anyone else had a similar journey.
