I'm 34 years old and have been working the same office job for nearly 8 years. The salary is decent, the work isn't too stressful, and from the outside it probably looks like I have a stable career.
The problem is that I no longer feel excited about what I do. Every day feels exactly the same. I wake up, go to work, come home, watch something on TV, sleep, and repeat. The security is nice, but I can't help feeling like I'm capable of more.
Over the past year, I've been learning skills related to digital marketing and online business in my spare time. I've even completed a few small freelance projects for friends and local businesses. While the income isn't enough to replace my salary yet, I genuinely enjoy the work far more than my current job.
My biggest concern is financial stability. I have bills to pay and responsibilities that make taking risks difficult. At the same time, I worry that if I don't try now, I'll look back in ten years and regret never giving myself a chance.
For those who left a stable job to start a business or freelance career, how did you know the timing was right? Did you build your side income first, or did you take a leap of faith?
I'd really appreciate hearing both success stories and lessons from people who wish they had done things differently.
